Viper 211HV 1-Way Keyless Entry System Review

The following statement is a fact : All the customers that reviewed and rated this item as a "1 star" are complete morons.
They didn't even review the product itself, just complained about how difficult installation was. The product is a keyless entry/alarm. What did they expect ? Something that plugs and plays universally into any vehicle ?!?! They obviously did not do their research to see what was involved for installation prior to purchase. (Like any customer with an IQ over 80 would have done)
rant done, on to the review.
Directed products have always had great quality and decent installation instructions. It is possible to do the installation yourself as long as you feel comfortable using a DMM (Digital Multi-Meter) and know your way around the interior vehicle (taking apart some dash and kick panels). I will give a high level procedure of what is needed.
1) Google the vehicle wiring diagram for your specific vehicle. Most vehicle wiring diagrams will provide the color of the ignition wire including it's approximate location.
2) You might also need to research how a relay works (very very simple) so that you understand what some of the internal relays inside the module are actually doing (google "relay 87a 87 common coil". You notice terms like "UNLOCK #30 COMMON (OUTPUT)" in the installation guide. You'll need to know how relays work in order to do the next step.
3) Use you vehicle wiring diagram in conjunction with the installation guide to determine which wires you won't need. For example : A 2001 Toyota Tundra does not require a "Second Unlock Output" which is a blue wire on the alarm wiring harness. So I just cut the wire (leaving about 2 inches, just in case I move the alarm to another vehicle that does need the 2nd unlock output) and crimp a cap on it.
4) At this point you should have a very good idea of where each wire on the alarm wiring harness needs to tap into on your vehicle wiring based on the vehicle specific wiring diagram.
5) Start taking apart the interior pieces to get to the locations specified in your vehicle specific wiring diagram.
6) Find a good place to mount or attach the main module. I use two very very long zip ties and try to snug the module as far up and away from visibility as possible.
7) Start working down the list of wires in the installation guide. The first one is usually "RED - (+) 12V CONSTANT POWER INPUT" and my vehicle diagram (2001 Tundra) shows this to be a "WHITE or WHITE/RED wire located in the main ignition harness". Start by using your DMM to verify that this wire is indeed a constant 12V source (ie. even with the key out of the ignition this wire will show ~12V on the DMM).
8) Once you have verified the wire is indeed the wire you want, go ahead and tap the "RED - (+) 12V CONSTANT POWER INPUT" into it. This can be done several ways. You can use a plastic wire tap or you can solder and use high quality electrical tape to wrap and cover. I always recommend using solder and high quality electrical tape like 33+ 3M electrical tape. Use plenty of zip ties to make sure the alarm wires are snug and don't freely hang.
9) Repeat steps 7 and 8 until your done with all of the wires.
10) Once all wires are attached (don't put the dash pieces back yet) go ahead and test out the alarm/keyless entry.
11) Once you've tested it alarm/keyless entry go ahead and put the dash back together and test once more. Now your done.If you feel this is too much work or too complicated then I would recommend just taking it to an MECP certified installation center like Bestbuy.

Remote Start System Review

I bought a Remote Start System and it does not work. The switch is always conductive on both positions. The system can not be programmed. The instructions are inconsistent from the booklet and their pre-recorded tech support message. The CD doesn't provide any useful information. They don't grant warranty if you bought it from on-line. (even they do, you still have to pay $20!)

The Switchblade: Key and Remote Combo For A 2004 Subaru Impreza

I paid $108 for a flip key for my WRX. A week and a half later, I receive an envelope from iKeyless containing, wait for it... a piece of rubber. So I get on the phone and tell them that they've made a mistake, and that they will ship out the remote immediately. This time I ask if they can email me a tracking number, the girl says yes, but never asks for my email address. So I suggested she ask me for my email address as she would need it to email me. I give her my email address, and guess what, I never get a tracking number. 2 weeks later I finally receive the remote. Essentially, they have taken a circuit board from a Subaru remote, and put it in a cheap piece of plastic. Also, the remote is HUGE. Like MASSIVE. Be prepared for it, because its about the seize of most cell phones. In conclusion, the customer service leaves much to be desired, and the product is far from satisfactory.
