Viper 211HV 1-Way Keyless Entry System Review

Viper 211HV 1-Way Keyless Entry System

The following statement is a fact : All the customers that reviewed and rated this item as a "1 star" are complete morons.
They didn't even review the product itself, just complained about how difficult installation was. The product is a keyless entry/alarm. What did they expect ? Something that plugs and plays universally into any vehicle ?!?! They obviously did not do their research to see what was involved for installation prior to purchase. (Like any customer with an IQ over 80 would have done)
rant done, on to the review.
Directed products have always had great quality and decent installation instructions. It is possible to do the installation yourself as long as you feel comfortable using a DMM (Digital Multi-Meter) and know your way around the interior vehicle (taking apart some dash and kick panels). I will give a high level procedure of what is needed.
1) Google the vehicle wiring diagram for your specific vehicle. Most vehicle wiring diagrams will provide the color of the ignition wire including it's approximate location.
2) You might also need to research how a relay works (very very simple) so that you understand what some of the internal relays inside the module are actually doing (google "relay 87a 87 common coil". You notice terms like "UNLOCK #30 COMMON (OUTPUT)" in the installation guide. You'll need to know how relays work in order to do the next step.
3) Use you vehicle wiring diagram in conjunction with the installation guide to determine which wires you won't need. For example : A 2001 Toyota Tundra does not require a "Second Unlock Output" which is a blue wire on the alarm wiring harness. So I just cut the wire (leaving about 2 inches, just in case I move the alarm to another vehicle that does need the 2nd unlock output) and crimp a cap on it.
4) At this point you should have a very good idea of where each wire on the alarm wiring harness needs to tap into on your vehicle wiring based on the vehicle specific wiring diagram.
5) Start taking apart the interior pieces to get to the locations specified in your vehicle specific wiring diagram.
6) Find a good place to mount or attach the main module. I use two very very long zip ties and try to snug the module as far up and away from visibility as possible.
7) Start working down the list of wires in the installation guide. The first one is usually "RED - (+) 12V CONSTANT POWER INPUT" and my vehicle diagram (2001 Tundra) shows this to be a "WHITE or WHITE/RED wire located in the main ignition harness". Start by using your DMM to verify that this wire is indeed a constant 12V source (ie. even with the key out of the ignition this wire will show ~12V on the DMM).
8) Once you have verified the wire is indeed the wire you want, go ahead and tap the "RED - (+) 12V CONSTANT POWER INPUT" into it. This can be done several ways. You can use a plastic wire tap or you can solder and use high quality electrical tape to wrap and cover. I always recommend using solder and high quality electrical tape like 33+ 3M electrical tape. Use plenty of zip ties to make sure the alarm wires are snug and don't freely hang.
9) Repeat steps 7 and 8 until your done with all of the wires.
10) Once all wires are attached (don't put the dash pieces back yet) go ahead and test out the alarm/keyless entry.
11) Once you've tested it alarm/keyless entry go ahead and put the dash back together and test once more. Now your done.If you feel this is too much work or too complicated then I would recommend just taking it to an MECP certified installation center like Bestbuy.

This item is exactly as it is described on the site- and it works really well. The only reason I did not give this item 5 stars is that you had to take it to the dealer to get it programmed- which was in the product description- I know- but still, it would have been nice to be able to program this item myself!

When I lost my car keys earlier this year, I went to the Dodge dealer and they told me it would cost around $135.00 to replace and reprogram the Key Fob. Luckily a friend told me to try to find one here on Amazon. After a few attemps I was able to program the Fob. Word of caution - You have to have a WORKING fob in addition to this one, or you will not be able to program it yourself.

The keyless entry remote was ordered to replace the original remote in my Saturn Vue, The original had lost some of the power and was sluggish for locking and unlocking the vehicle. I ordered the remote through Amazon and it was received promptly and in good condition. I took it to a GM dealership and had it programmed for my vehicle. It works great.

be aware that the programming for this little beast is complex -it required me to remove my glove box to access the module and inserting the programming chip was not easy. The instructions did not indicate which way the chip is inserted either (it will go either way). I also did not get the blinking dash light they said I would to indicate that the programming "took". Having said that, it did take and now the unit works fine. 1/2 the cost of a stock BMW transmitter, if you can even find one (1997).

Keyless Entry Remote Fob Clicker for 2002 Hyundai Sonata (Must be programmed by Hyundai dealer)

I got this remote for my 2002 Hyundai Sonata, and can confirm it works flawlessly.
It took alot of google searching to find the instructions to program this my self but after more effort than it would have taken than to break into Fort Knox, I found them.
Here are the steps on how to program it on a 2002 Hyundai Sonata
1.) Access alarm system control module located behind fascia panel in center (the module is located behind the ashtray, you must remove the fascia that surrounds the radio, climate controls, clock, etc.)
2.) Ensure memory switch is in OFF position (they should always be off unless programming)
3.) Switch ignition on
4.) Wait 5 seconds. Set memory switch to SET position.
5.) Press remote transmitter LOCK button to send code to alarm system control module.
6.) To program a second remote, (I believe you can only program 2, And I hear that you must program ALL remotes to be used any time the keyless module is set to SET) press the LOCK button on the second remote transmitter.
7.) Set memory switch to OFF.
8.) Switch off ignition
9.) Confirm programming by locking and unlocking vehicle with both remote transmitters. Now the black box is going to annoy you to no end, you have to maybe remove it from it's mounts to get to the switch
Now the product I got was delivered very fast, and in flawless condition
I recommend this product

Don't ask Home Depot or Lowes to cut the key for you. They will not do it as they have a policy against chipped keys. They say that there have been instances of aftermarket transponders damaging the car's computer and they do not want the liability. So now I have to find an independent key cutter. But now I also question if these keys would cause damage to my car. I'm not so sure it would, but I don't think I want to risk it. So, it's off to the dealer for the "real key" as I have doubts about the aftermarket ones which I didn't have before trying to get it cut. Not the seller's fault so I not asking for a refund.

1. Went to a locksmith and told them I wanted just the cutting service (not the programming). Paid $4 for this service. I believe Home Depot and Lowes could do it too, but I trust a locksmith more and the stores were arguing that they couldn't do car keys.
2. Followed the instructions for utilizing the 2 dealer keys and ignition to program the new key.

I bought my 95 Lincoln Town Car and it didn't have a key fob and so I was quite excited when I was able to find one here for a reasonable price. It was super easy to program and I haven't had any problems with it except the range is quite good which is a good thing, bad thing is my daughter who is 23 months sometimes finds my keys (my fault) and pushes buttons from inside the house which sometimes opens my trunk or the alarm goes off. So the range on this is excellent and like I said very easy to program! Would recommend buying if you either need another or lost one.

Discount Keyless was my vendor for the purchase and overall did a very good job of taking care of everything on my order. I had ordered two and received only one remote. They quickly responded to my e-mail and sent another one out immediately. Although it was a slightly different style from the first, they both appear to be working properly and we're pleased with the experience. I had to call on a programming question and they responded quickly and professionally. Overall a great experience.

I received two key fobs promptly and after 4 mo one stopped working completely. Still looks new, it was the one I used for a spare. I tried to return it , but I guess it was too late? Anyway, they were in new condition when I received them, just wish it would have lasted longer , because I am down to one remote again.
Arrived from time of order on time and I am happy with the one that still works. Just guess it is a toss of the coin.
